The clinical features of uraemia may be considered by system:

  • central nervous system:
    • encephalopathy
    • fits
    • twitch or tremor

  • peripheral neuropathy

  • gastrointestinal:
    • anorexia
    • nausea and vomiting
    • colitis

  • pleuritis

  • pleural effusion

  • pericarditis

  • endocrine:
    • growth retardation
    • sexual dysfunction

  • skin:
    • pruritus
    • "half-and-half" nails

  • halitosis - typically fishy breath
