Depo Provera and enzyme-inducing drugs

NICE state that (1):

• the use of additional barrier methods should be discussed with women and girls taking enzyme-inducing anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) and oral contraception or having depot injections of progestogen

However FSRH guidance states with respect to depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) or the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system; used concurrently with enzyme-inducing AEDs

• no interaction and no need for extra precautions
