respiratory response

Last reviewed 01/2018

The respiratory response to a major burn at another site on the body is mediated through the blood-borne passage of inflammatory mediators. Agents such as thromboxane A2 cause bronchoconstriction and increase airway resistance. There is increased pulmonary artery blood flow and capillary leakage.

Consequently, there is a possibility of interstitial oedema and adult respiratory distress syndrome.
