These include:
- x-ray of the orbit:
- local erosion due to malignancy
- dilatation of the optic foramen from a meningioma or optic nerve glioma
- local sclerosis from a meningioma
- calcification from a retinoblastoma or lacrimal gland tumour
- CT of orbit - defines site of lesion and it's intracranial extent. Coronal views help to define the size of the optic nerve and extraocular muscles, and the upper and lower borders of the orbit
- MRI - useful in certain cases eg. meningiomas of the optic nerve sheath
