Pituitary tumours have a prevalence of 200 per million and an incidence of 15 new patients/million/year.

The relative frequency of the different tumour types is given below:

  • prolactinoma 50-55%
  • non-secreting 20-25%
  • somatotroph 20-23%
  • corticotroph 5-8%
  • gonadotroph < 5%
  • thyrotroph < 1%
