immunosuppression
Last reviewed 01/2018
Immunosuppression is a necessary adjunct to liver transplantation.
Immunosuppressive agents that have been used in combination are cyclosporin, prednisolone and azathioprine.
Newer agents include Tacrolimus (FK-506), Ribavirin and Mofetil.
Immunosuppression is usually continued indefinitely though once the graft is established the dose and number of agents may be reduced.
