Raised plasma levels of acid phosphatase are associated with:
- prostatic carcinoma:
- used in staging and monitoring treatment of extracapsular spread
- not useful for screeing for localized prostatic carcinoma
- benign prostatic hypertrophy - mildly raised
- vigorous prostate examination
- prostatic infarction - massively raised
- urethral instrumentation
- Gaucher's disease: non-tartrate labile acid phosphatase
