The appropriate investigations for suspected acute mediastinitis include:
- FBC
- blood cultures
- radiography, which shows:
- mediastinal widening
- air in the mediastinum and the soft tissues
- pneumothorax or hydrothorax
- CT - useful in diagnosis and management
