Unilateral lower limb oedema may seen as a complication of a deep vein thrombosis. Localized blockage of other vessels may cause oedema e.g. if the superior vena cava is obstructed then this may cause superior vena cava obstruction.
Lymphoedema, which is caused by localized lymphatic obstruction, may cause a swollen limb.
Other possible causes include:
- localized inflammation
- paralysis of a limb may result in localized oedema
