The metabolic causes of coma include:

  • hypoglycaemia: have features of tachycardia, sweats and fits
  • hyperglycaemia: less often comatosed and have features of dehydration and air hunger
  • ketoacidosis
  • renal failure: uraemia
  • hepatic failure
  • hypernatraemia
  • hypoadrenalism
  • hypothyroidism
