chronic groin and scrotal pain

Last reviewed 01/2018

Chronic groin pain often occurs with no clues in the history and no swelling. Some conditions to consider include:

Chronic groin pain:

  • inflamed inguinal lymph nodes secondary to infection
  • strained muscle attachments to the bony pelvis, especially the hip adductors which have attachments near to the pubic tubercle
  • referred pain from a diseased hip
  • early inguinal hernia, ie before it has become clinically apparent

Chronic scrotal pain:

  • inflammation
  • chronic bacterial epididymitis
  • recurrent incomplete testicular torsion
