Within the superior mediastinum, the following structures are situated inferior to the aortic arch:

• ligamentum arteriosum
• left recurrent laryngeal nerve
• left principal bronchus
• superficial cardiac plexus
• bifurcation of pulmonary arteries; the pulmonary trunk
