viral myositis

Viral myositis may be caused by:
- influenza:
- a mild myositis commonly accompanies influenza infection
- post-influenzal myositis causes severe pain in the calf or occasionally the thigh as well
- serum CK is raised
- enteroviruses:
- Coxsackie B viruses (especially B5 & B6) are associated with myositis
- there is an association between Bornholm disease and myositis
- hepatitis B, rubella, herpes & respiratory syncytial virus may rarely cause myositis
