significant symptoms in infants

  • reduced feeding (< 50% of normal amounts over 24 hours)
  • persistent vomiting (especially if more than half of the last three feeds are lost)
  • any bile-stained vomiting
  • rapid breathing, especially if noisy or of sudden onset
  • less than four wet nappies in the last 24 hours
  • inappropriate drowsiness or irritability
  • frank blood in stools
  • a persistent and unusual cry
  • history suggestive or apnoeic episodes
