treatment

Last reviewed 01/2018

Treatment in the acute stage is:

  • rice (rest, ice, compression, elevation)
  • NSAID

Once symptoms subside the cause should be localised and the exercise program of the patient should be modified

  • proper conditioning, physical therapy for stretching and strengthening of the calf musculature
  • extracorporeal shockwave therapy may be helpful

A podiatrist can fit orthotics to prevent hyperpronation, if this is the causative factor.
