treatment
Last reviewed 01/2018
Treatment in the acute stage is:
- rice (rest, ice, compression, elevation)
- NSAID
Once symptoms subside the cause should be localised and the exercise program of the patient should be modified
- proper conditioning, physical therapy for stretching and strengthening of the calf musculature
- extracorporeal shockwave therapy may be helpful
A podiatrist can fit orthotics to prevent hyperpronation, if this is the causative factor.
