Brufen retard

Often, if a non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drug is indicated a propionic acid derivative such as ibuprofen is used first.

If ibuprofen has been successful, but the patient gets night time pain, ibuprofen slow release (R) has obvious advantages.

Dosage:

  • 800 mg twice daily preferably early evening
  • in severe cases increased to 3 tablets daily in 2 divided doses

The slow release preparation may have other advantages, because there are less peaks and troughs of concentration, meaning than side effects such as GI disturbances and breakthrough pain are less often seen (1).

The summary of product characteristics must be consulted before prescribing this drug.
