A hemiplegic gait is the style of walking that is seen in a patient with upper motor neurone disease.

It is characterized by:

  • arm adducted and internally rotated
  • elbow is flexed and pronated
  • fingers may be flexed
  • the foot is plantar flexed and the leg is swung in a lateral arc
