The conception rate depends on the number of embryo's implanted. A maximum of 3 is recommended. Results are:

  • 1 embryo replaced - 14% conception rate
  • 2 embryos replaced - 28% conception rate
  • 3 embryos replaced - 42% conception rate

There is little difference overall between GIFT, IVF or ZIFT.

The cryopreservation of excess pre-embryonic eggs may substantially increase the ultimate pregnancy rate in some women.

It is estimated that successive attempts at assisted reproduction lead to a cumulative pregnancy rate of 80%. However, most couples do not undertake sufficient cycles to realise this.
