uses of magnesium sulphate

The administration of magnesium sulphate may be indicated in a variety of clinical situations including:
- cardiac arrest
- refractory ventricular fibrillation in the presence of suspected hypomagnesaemia e.g. patients on potassium losing diuretics
- refractory ventricular tachycardia in the presence of suspected hypomagnesaemia
- broad complex tachycardias in the presence of hypokalaemia (potassium less than 4.0 mmol/l)
- eclampsia
- severe asthma
