• alpha-galactosidase activity can be measured from chorionic villi in the ninth or tenth week of pregnancy; it is also possible to measure alpha-galactosidase activity from cultured amniotic cells at 15 weeks
• it is possible to detect female fetuses who are heterozygotes if their family mutation is known
