TEN should be differentiated from the following exfoliating, desquamating, or blistering diseases:- Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) - blistering is more superficial and involvement of the mucous membrane is less common than in TEN
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) - Detachment <10% of body surface with widespread purpuric or erythematous macules or both and flat atypical target lesions
- Bullous erythema multiforme - Detachment <10% of body surface area and localised target lesions or raised atypical targets
- Bullous pemphigoid
- Pemphigus
