  • first line investigations include FBC, ESR, U+Es, B12, TFTs, fasting glucose
  • more specialist investigations include
    • evaluation of serum levels of other B group of vitamins like thiamine, riboflavin is suggested (1)
    • magnesium levels
    • tests for malabsorption
    • bone marrow aspiration (indicated if suggestion of myeloproliferative diseases such as essential thrombocytosis or polycythemia vera)
    • electrophysiological studies (nerve conduction velocities, electromyography or nerve biopsy)
    • imaging studies such as MRI or CT
