PNDS can be caused by a number of different conditions which disturbs the normal production of mucus from the nasal and sinus cavities (1). These include:
- allergic rhinitis
- enlarged adenoids
- sinusitis/gastroesophageal reflux
- polyps (cystic fibrosis)
- mucociliary dysfunction
- anatomical anomalies
- smoking and exposure to toxins
