The mean systolic blood pressure was 10 mmHg lower in the tight control group:
- 144/82 mmHg vs. 154/87
Reductions in risk for the various end-points for the tight control group were:
- 24% in the diabetes related end-points
- 32% in the diabetes related mortality
- the reduction in all cause mortality was not significant
Other notable results were:
- 44% reduction in relative risk of stroke
- 37% reduction in relative risk of microvascular complications, especially the need for photocoagulation
