movements

Psychiatric disorders may alter movements:

  • depressive affective disorder:
    • slow, ponderous movements
    • in extreme cases there may be immobility and mutism (stupor)

  • mania:
    • movements are rapid and pressured
    • there is overactivity and restlessness
    • rarely there may be stupor

  • anxiety:
    • restless
    • tremulous movements

  • parkinsonism:
    • difficulty in initiating movement
    • slow, stiff movements
    • may be tremor
