differential diagnosis of acute leukaemia

The differential diagnosis of acute leukaemia includes:

  • if lymphadenopathy present:
    • lymphoma
    • Epstein-Barr virus infection

  • if hepatosplenomegaly present:
    • myeloproliferative disorder
    • lymphoproliferative disorder
    • myelodysplasia
    • metabolic and storage disorders
    • autoimmune disorders

  • pancytopenia without peripheral blast cells:
    • aplastic anaemia
    • marrow infiltration by tumour

  • myelodysplasia
