caecal carcinoma
Last reviewed 01/2018
Right-sided colonic cancer implies carcinoma in the caecum, and the ascending and proximal transverse colon.
The patient usually presents with unexplained pain in the right iliac fossa plus or minus general symptoms such as anaemia, malaise and weakness. Abdominal pain often develops late in the disease because the tumour may remain silent until it has grown a considerable size.
In general, patients are over 40 years of age, and commonly the condition is seen in 70-80 year olds. Women are more affected than men.
