- most common - drowsiness and weight gain - affect about 10% of patients
- other possible side effects include dizziness, increased appetite, postural hypotension, peripheral oedema and mild transient anticholinergic effects (e.g. constipation and dry mouth)
- early, asymptomatic, transient elevation of liver enzymes has been reported
