causes of malpresentation and malposition

In most cases malpresentation and malposition does not have a pathological basis. However, some maternal and foetal factors may predispose to the condition:
Maternal factors:
- pelvic inflammation
- pelvic tumour / fibroid
- arcuate or septate uterus
- oligohydramnios
- placenta praevia
Foetal factors:
- prematurity
- multiple pregnancy
- fetal malformation e.g. hydrocephalus
- intrauterine death
