Febrile convulsions are the most common form of childhood seizure disorder. It is commonly seen between the ages of 6 months and 6 years with a peak incidence at 18 months of age
- majority will occur before the child reaches the age of 3 years while 6-15% occur after the age of 4 years
- occurs in boys more than in girls – around 60% in boys (1,2)
The incidence of the condition is estimated to be
- between 2% and 5% in the US and Western Europe,
- between 6% to 9% in Japan
- 14% in India and Guam (1)
Simple febrile seizures represents between 65%-90% of the cases (3)
