Surgery may be employed to correct anatomical abnormalities and relieve rhinitis.

Hypertrophied turbinates may be reduced by submucosal diathermy which leaves the mucous membranes intact and is preferable to methods such as electrocoagulation and cryosurgery.

Deformities of the nasal septum may be corrected by submucous resection.

Nasal polyps may respond to medical treatment or surgical resection.

Foreign bodies should be removed.
