aetiology of localised peritonitis

Localised peritonitis can be caused by:
- transmural bowel inflammation, e.g. appendicitis, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease
- transmural inflammation of other viscera, e.g. salpingitis, cholecystitis
- transmural ischaemia, e.g. ischaemic bowel obstruction - strangulating hernia
