Immune suppression is used as a disease-modifying treatment in multiple sclerosis.
Corticosteroids are widely used to shorten the duration of relapses.
Azathioprine has a marginally beneficial effect.
Other treatments which are not effective include:
- methotrexate
- cladribine
- cyclophosphamide
- cylcosporin
