pulmonary vein (right inferior, anatomy)
Last reviewed 01/2018
The right inferior pulmonary vein drains the territory of the lower lobe of the right lung. The segmental veins merge slightly proximal to the right hilum and then pass anteriorly as the right inferior pulmonary vein to form the most inferior structure within the right lung root. Within the root, its relations are:
- superiorly: pulmonary artery
- posterosuperiorly: right main bronchus
It merges with the pericardium to join the posterior border of the right atrium inferior to the point of insertion of the right superior pulmonary vein.
