Anticholinergic drugs e.g. atropine, and drugs with anticholinergic effects e.g. imipramine and amitriptyline, antagonise cisapride's prokinetic action.
Drugs which inhibit cisapride's metabolism e.g. clarithromycin, erythromycin, fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole and miconazole, have been implicated in prolongation of the QT interval. Life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias can result.
Cisapride can prolong the prothrombin time in patients on anticoagulants; clotting should be checked on a regular basis.
The sedative effects of alcohol and benzodiazepines may be accelerated by cisapride.
