Complications caused by the varicose ulcers themselves include:
- haemorrhage:
- bleeding may be profuse because of the high venous pressure
- superficial thrombophlebitis
Complications caused by associated venous hypertension include:
- ankle oedema
- varicose eczema
- lipodermatosclerosis:
- atrophie blanche
- severe excoriation from scratching
- venous ulceration
