- hypoproteinaemia and oedema
- delayed wound healing
- impaired immune function
- reduced mobilisation
- reduced response to therapy
- apathy and fatigue
- increased susceptibility to infection and pressure sores
Long term:
- increased morbidity
- prolonged hospitalisation
- prolonged convalescence
- increased mortality
