- angina patients:
- stable angina: if coronary arteriography demonstrates one or more coronary stenoses which are suitable for dilatation
- unstable angina: angioplasty can be used but has a higher rate of complications than if used in stable angina
- acute myocardial infarction:
- in specialist centres acute angioplasty improves short-term outcomes as compared to thrombolysis
- previous coronary bypass grafts:
- patients with stenoses of the saphenous vein or internal mammary bypass grafts can be successfully treated with coronary angioplasty
