job satisfaction and occupational stress among GPs

Last reviewed 01/2018

A questionnaire survey of Manchester GPs (Mackin PJ et al) found high satisfaction with aspects of the job such as method of working, variety of work. However high stress was associated with interruptions, administration, emotional involvement and the work/home interface.

A postal survey of GPs in 1990 found an increased level of stress and anxiety than a similar survey performed in 1989. It was thought that the increased stress may be related to the new contract.
