contraindications and cautions

These include:
- agranulocytosis
- severe liver damage
- recent myocardial infarction, arrhythmias (particularly heart block)
May activate epilepsy.
Conditions where tricyclics can be used with caution include:
- in the elderly
- closed angle glaucoma
- history of urinary retention
- history of epilepsy
- thyroid disease
- hepatic impairment
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- phaeochromocytoma
- avoid abrupt withdrawal
