diverticulae (oesophageal)
Last reviewed 01/2018
The only common diverticulum of the oesophagus is the pharyngeal pouch.
Other oesophageal diverticulae are rare:
- traction diverticula may occur in association with fixation to tuberculous glands or to pleural adhesions
- pulsion diverticula may be associated with cardiospasm and occur at the lower end of the oesophagus - epiphrenic diverticula
Occasionally, congenital diverticula are found radiologically, although they may present with dysphagia.
