complications

There are a number of serious complications which ought to be bourne in mind; some can occur acutely, others may present a long time after the catheter has been removed.
Complications include:
- thrombosis - to the lower limbs, but also in the mesenteric, hepatic and renal arteries.
- vasospasm, generally manifest in the lower limbs, but also to other areas
- ischaemia, resulting in necrotising enterocolitis
