hamartomatous lesions

Hamartomata of the small intestine include the following conditions:
- ectopic pancreas - usually seen along the antimesenteric border of the bowel or in a Meckel's diverticulum
- hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia:
- Osler-Weber-Rendu disease
- associated with Turner's syndrome
- neurofibromas and arteriovenous malformation - likely to cause symptoms such as obstruction, bleeding and intussception
- Peutz-Jeghers syndrome:
- polypoid lesions mainly reside in the jejunum, but can occur at any point in the gastrointestinal tract
- intussusception of the polyps can give rise to small bowel obstruction
