Aortic root dilatation causing aortic regurgitation may be due to:
- isolated dilatation - the commonest cause
- dissection of ascending aorta
- secondary dilatation due to:
- Marfan's syndrome
- syphilis
- ankylosing spondylitis
- Reiter's syndrome
- untreated hypertension
