prognosis

The majority of cases of appendix carcinoid tumour are cured by appendicectomy. Cure is less likely if the tumour is greater than 2 centimetres in diameter, or if there is lymphatic and hepatic spread at the time of surgery.
The prognosis of malignant mucocele of the appendix is said to be excellent providing that perforation has not taken place, the tumour is confined to the tip of the organ, and the submucosa has not been invaded.
