Last reviewed 01/2018

Abductor digiti minimi is one of the intrinsic hand muscles.

It arises from three contiguous sites:

  • pisiform bone
  • pisohamate ligment
  • flexor retinaculum

It inserts into the following structures:

  • ulnar border of base of proximal phalanx
  • extensor expansion of little finger
  • sesamoid bone

The action of abductor digiti minimi is to abduct the little finger at the metacarpophalangeal joint.

It is innervated by the deep branch of the ulnar nerve.
