Classically the patient is a slim, young female with pectus excavatum.
The symptoms of mitral valve prolapse include:
- non-specific symptoms include chest pain, palpitations, pre-syncope or syncope
- effort intolerance, characterised by lassitude and dyspnoea
On examination there may be:
- mid to late systolic clicks
- late systolic murmurs heard at the apex
