referral criteria from primary care - thrombocytopaenia (thrombocytopenia)
Last reviewed 01/2018
- when considering referral then consider the degree of urgency of the referral
to the haematologist with respect to the platelet count:
- non-urgent referral - platelet counts of 100-150x109/l in a well patient
- fairly urgent referral - 50-100x109/
- urgent referral - if platelet count < 50x109/l, refer urgently
Notes:
- consider the clinical condition of the patient when considering referral - any degree of thrombocytopenia in an ill patient merits referral
