  • neutropaenia and thrombocytopaenia predispose to infection and bleeding
  • persistently raised levels of organic acids lead to:
    • pancreatitis
    • cardiomyopathy
    • stroke (Basal ganglia)
    • adults develop optic nerve atrophy
