transcortical motor dysphasia

The clinical features of a transcortical motor dysphasia include:

  • non-fluent speech and writing
  • comprehension is normal
  • repetition of speech is normal

The lesion is usually in one of two locations:

  • Broca's area:
    • the lesion is small or recovering
  • frontal lobes:
    • seen in cases of abulia or akinetic mutism
